Simulations of nonlinear atomic ionization processes in extreme fields

Abstract: In this talk I will present work that is being done in the Theoretical Light-Matter Dynamics (TLMD) group at the Division of Mathematical Physics at Lund University. Our main objective in the group is to develop methods for simulations of atoms subject to extreme pulses from ultra-short lasers, high-order harmonic generation and free-electron lasers. At the moment, we are focusing on electron correlation effects in nonlinear processes such as laser-assisted photoionization, time-resolved absorption spectroscopy, frustrated tunneling, above-threshold ionization, ultra-fast Rabi oscillations and radiation from coherent atomic systems. In addition, I will present an overview of our theoretical methodologies ranging from diagrammatic many-body perturbation theory to the time-dependent relativistic Dirac equation for many-electron atoms that has been developed using the configuration interaction singles approximation.
