Dissecting intra-cycle quantum interference in ultrafast photoelectron holography

Abstract: Similarly to traditional holography, ultrafast photoelectron holography explores quantum phase differences between qualitatively different electron pathways to extract information about a target. Unfortunately, however, the residual binding potential is neglected in most theoretical models of the interference patterns encountered. This is problematic as its presence radically alters the electron dynamics. In this presentation, I will analyze a myriad holographic patterns, known and overlooked, in terms of electron trajectories using an orbit-based method that includes the binding potential and the laser field on equal footing: the Coulomb Quantum-orbit Strong-Field Approximation (CQSFA) [1]. Subsequently, I will provide applications and illustrate how photoelectron holography may be used to detect the parity of atomic and molecular orbitals [2] and introduce a novel spiral-like holographic structure highly sensitive to phase differences [3]. We also discuss how one can overcome the obstacle posed by ATI rings, in order to investigate subtle multi-path interference [4].
